I have worked in a diverse range of sectors encompassing education, training, research, project management and broadcasting for over 20 years and carried out a varied range of roles including teaching, guidance, and management.
I aim to focus more on students’ learning, rather than on my own teaching and to encourage young people to become the owners of their learning. Throughout my teaching, I built in the appropriate and imaginative use of technology to enhance learning in my classes. I create resources to ensure pace and challenge for learners of different ability levels to promote the highest possible achievement for all. This is achieved by differentiating materials and tailoring learning and teaching to meet the needs of more and less able learners.
1st prize for the County Competition of Academic Writing "Alma Mater Press". 1st prize in the ‘National Educational Research Competition’ with the research study ‘Active methods used in teaching Religious Education’.
Master of Education in Professional Practice Postgraduate Diploma in Education with Teaching Qualification (Religious studies) Bachelor’s Degree in Theology Optical and Biomedical Equipment (BEng)
I contributed to both ‘Religion and school’ (book) by writing the chapter ‘Religious Education in Scotland’ and ‘Religious Education in dialogue with society’ (book), the chapter: ‘Active methods used in teaching Religious Education’. This led to an increased confidence in my use of these methods and to more variety in my practice. I presented various papers at conferences such as: ‘Self-assessment in the literature and research’ and ‘From stage to side – The teacher’s role in implementing group work’ at the International Conferences ‘Education from the perspective of values’; these strengthened my own subject and pedagogical knowledge.
